Data Vehicle to Help Improve Road Conditions
April 25, 2017
The City of Peoria is getting help evaluating road conditions.
Every three to five years, the City uses a vehicle from Data Transfer Solutions, a company based out of Florida. The vehicle has downward facing cameras that are laser-illuminated to detect deterioration in the roadways. The vehicle uses the Pavement Condition Index, or PCI. It is a scale from zero to 100 that evaluates the severity of the pavement’s condition.
“The Pavement Condition Index would help us evaluate roads,” said Andrea Klopfenstein, civic engineer with the City of Peoria Public Works. “If we’re trying to pick between one road and another road, this will help us kind of make that ranking.”
From there, the City can decide how to better budget its funds.
