Project Schedule & Budget: Met

When Mr. John Jackman started the job as Director of Public Works in the City of Somersworth, NH he had a vision to utilize GIS to help him manage the infrastructure he was charged with. So one of the first things he asked was “where are the maps?” He was directed to the office of his predecessor where paper maps of all sizes filled the room. Trouble was, none of them were reliable. Funding was very limited so Mr. Jackman used creative ways to build the GIS through the use of summer interns with GPS, funds from grants and other sources, and a focused commitment from him and his staff. As the GIS building process neared completion Mr. Jackman realized that he needed more than just GIS to complete his vision. So he looked for a software tool that would allow him to share the GIS, attach documents, link data, track service calls, manage work orders, capture costs, develop capital projects, track condition and more at an affordable cost. When he saw VUEWorks he looked no further.

VUEWorks completes Somersworth’s vision for GIS and Asset Management

Today VUEWorks is used by multiple departments throughout the City. Some departments use it just to view maps and find information, while DPW staff use it do that plus manage maintenance activity and service calls. Plans are to increase the use of other features and incorporate more asset types from cemetery plots to signs. With limited resources Mr. Jackman employs interns who get up to speed very quickly with the product and take care of keeping the data up to date. VUEWorks is the tool that made Mr. Jackman’s vision to manage infrastructure and share maps a reality across all departments in the City of Somersworth.
